In this Starman guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of the chords to this acoustic David Bowie classic AND the electric guitar solo as well!
The tuning is standard tuning.
The first chord you hear in Starman, you will see played a million different ways online. It is hard to find, or pretty much impossible to find, video evidence of David Bowie playing this in the seventies. In later live videos, he changed the key of “Starman”, probably to make it easier to sing,. But because of that key change, the chords are completely different so don’t try to reference those when playing along with the original recording.
Those two intro chords are probably the most difficult chords of the entire song as well, but I think the chords I came up with for this lesson are pretty faithful to the original recording.
From there we have the verse, which has a lot more upbeat feel to it and uses common chord voicings. There are going to be a lot of barre chords throughout the song, so be aware of that.
For the chorus, the chord progression is much longer and has some very interesting chords as well. Definitely not your typical pop chord progression.
I will also cover the chords used during the solo and the electric guitar solo itself towards the end of the lesson.
Have fun with this great David Bowie classic. R.I.P. David! #starmanguitarlesson #davidbowie #guitarcovers
